Wooden Storage Shed versus Metal Storage Shed

We needed to build a large wooden outdoor storage shed. We went shopping at the various home building stores in our area. We wanted to consider the costs of a wooden storage shed versus a metal storage shed. We also looked at vinyl storage sheds.

The costs of the various sheds were too high for our budget. We also had to consider that the owner has the responsibility of building the foundation. Shed prices ranged from $2500 to $11,000 depending on the size. The price did not include the cost of the foundation and other building accessories such as the windows, doors, porch, overhangs, shelving, wood decking, handrails, or other construction needs.

As you know part of the cost for the commercial storage sheds pays for convenience. It is nice to select the storage shed of choice, have it delivered to the house, set it on the ground and it is ready to utilize. Some of the prices on the sheds included delivery and set up. If you are not worried about stretching your dollar it would be a deal.

We were confident in our woodworking craftsmanship as beng excellent which would result in having a quality end product. Our shed costs could be reduced by thousands of dollars by building the storage shed ourselves. And the gift to ourselves would be the immense satisfaction in completing our DIY project to our specifications.

The dollars we would save using our labor would be dollars that could be invested in the quality of the shed and constructing other shed accessories and other indoor and outdoor furniture as needed.

The life of the metal shed is not very long. And when we calculated the dollars that were spent through the years;  it would have been less expensive to have built a wooden storage building.

We have owned three metal types of storage sheds and each of them rusted, dented, and split at the seams. We were never able to find total protection for our personal storage. Climate control in our new wooden shed will be appreciated.

We can draw a rough sketch of our plans to meet our requirements. It is our thoughts that are going down on paper. As we change our ideas, the pencil eraser can remove the unwanted changes very easily.

Next, turn on the computer, insert the shed design software, select the style of shed, the size, exterior needs, interior needs, workbench, shelves, windows, vents, electricity, and the workbench. Using the software program will include overlooked details.

The final step which is time efficient is to order a set of shed blueprints that resembles our ideas. The drawings will be more accurate and detailed. Step by step building instructions, roof and rafter details, and the wall frame.

The other benefits of ordering wooden shed plans is the large easy print to read and understand, and large illustrations that can be followed during construction, and a list of materials.

Plus other ideas that were not considered, such as landscaping, decorative stones, brick paths, wooden planters, garden benches, chairs, trellises, pergolas, lanterns, bird feeders and other indoor and outdoor furniture.

With plans in hand, it is time to prepare the storage shed site and foundation, build the floor, the walls, the roof, the windows, shelves, and the work bench. Install essential hardware - hooks, brackets, nails, screws, and bolts.

After the shed is completed we can use and enjoy it for the next twenty or thirty years, maybe longer. In my opnion that is the advantage of owning a wooden storage shed versus a metal storage shed.

Saving time and money is important to all of us. Take advantage of having excellent plans. Take a look at http://www.infotrish.vpweb.com/ and while there download your free shed plans.
