WOOD WORK TABLE TOPS

I want my coffee table covered with vinyl …?
I have a coffee table made of cheap wood. The finish is chipped and ugly. I'm redecorating my room, wondering if I could stretch the vinyl over it and staples (staples of furniture) to the underside. Does this work? How would it look? I do not necessarily buy another coffee table, because I'm pretty short of money.
I think it's a good idea …….. just trash the coffee table until can buy a new …… you get more room without any way.
