How to recognize a good piece of carpentry

Carpenter is one of the significant investment involved in building the house. Doors, windows, cupboards, tables and chairs … List of wood products used in household income is long.

However, customers are very likely to be deceived if they have the knowledge needed to identify some of the work well done.

The joints most commonly used box and tenon joinery and dovetail. Both are highly secure and capable of an enormous amount of pressure if done correctly. It is much more common than wood rot or Splinter slowly than it is for joints to give way.

Shoddy joinery can be one of several anomalies:

  1. The joints can be malformed. Apply pressure possible articulations of the woodwork – a rocking chair, for example. If the joint shows signs of wobbling, twisting or grinding sounds, immediately reject.
  2. Glue may be stuck in the wrong places. No adhesive should be visible in a good carpentry made. Everything is the glue on the inside, and leaves no trace of their presence when the carpenter was ready to buy
  3. The wood can be misaligned. When two pieces of wood are joined, the grain must be parallel. This prevents it from becoming brittle, developing cracks or separation of pure and simple due to heat expansion or water absorption

Apart from the quality of the carpentry, the wood itself should be the best choice for your budget. The most durable woods – oak, teak and mahogany to name name a few – are extremely expensive, so you may have to opt for a cheaper option. Idigbo, for example, can be given a final "oak" that resembles the original article very closely.

Wood is also very popular for furniture, but tends to absorb more water and Dent easier. Engineered wood, on the other hand, has a very high tensile strength, and treated to prevent pest damage. The division and distortion is minimized, making the finish very sustainable.

Anyone who the quality of materials and joinery, every piece of wood must be regularly maintained. Do not let your wooden objects or accessories that are immersed in water for a time and try to keep moisture to a minimum. There are in the market for wood coatings protect from moisture and ensure that the color and texture remains sober for at least a year after application.
