How to choose storage shed plans – 3 tips to help you find your ideal storage shed

You probably already know this, but you can’t just go to your local home improvement store, buy some wood, and make a shed. Well, perhaps you could, but the chances are it wouldn’t last long, possibly falling to pieces at the first sign of bad weather. In this article we give 3 tips that will help you find the right storage shed plans and complete a quality project.

Tip 1.  The first step with any building project should be to check with your local town planning department and home owners association to find out about any requirements or restrictions on building location, size, materials, and even color.

Tip 2.  Before buying plans think about the purpose of your storage shed. Is it just for keeping your yard tools or will it be used as a workshop, potting shed or garage?  Will you need utilities running or will you need insulation and windows to provide daylight?  What size and style do you need your storage shed to be?  Think about where you want to locate the shed, how you will access it and, if you live in an area that sees adverse weather, how robust it will need to be.

Tip 3.  Look at several storage shed plans, they are available at home improvement stores and on line. Good plans will provide details of all the materials you will need, tools required as well as step by step instructions.  This information will provide an idea of the level of expertise required for the project.  This can prevent a lot of heartache in the long term as you will know the cost, time and skills required to complete the project ahead of time.
