BUILDING WOOD WORK TABLES
Handyman project in the works: CAN YOU HELP ME BUILD A BP TABLE?!?!?

Alright ladies and gents, I’m building a beer pong table for my apartment (shocker!) and I just need some tips. I don’t want to buy a table,i want to buy some wood, paint and decorate it,make it look legit and i want it to be pretty durable. So if you could give me some input, tips, websites, sources, etc. on anything on this matter, just let me know,i’d greatly appreciate it,thanks!

The 2×6’ studs will be a “skirt” around the sides of the table, while the 2’x4’ studs will be the supporting backbone of the table.

The 2×4’s should be measured so that they are just under 44” and placed on the bottom of the table horizontally (the short length of the table). Four of these 2×4’s is an ideal number, and they should be placed 1.5’ apart. There should be enough room on each side for the 2×6’s, if not, then the 2×4’s should be trimmed back to they can fit. The 2×4’x should now be screwed into the plywood. These will help support the bulky piece of plywood that will become the beer pong table surface.

The 2×6’s should be placed around the edges of the table, and fastened to the 2×4’s using the L-brackets. Once this skirt of 2×6’s has been placed around the edges of the table, one more supportive step is needed. The remaining 8’ 2×4’s should be trimmed to fit within the constraints of the skirt and fastened length-wise to the existing horizontal 2×4’s. This will provide even more support when the table is resting on the saw horses.

The wood should then be stained, and two coats of stain is recommended. The staining of the wood should occur in a ventilated area for your safety. Once the stain dries, the table can be decorated using spray paint. Stencils work well for shapes, and masking tape can help when making patterns. Two coats of paint are recommended when building your beer pong table.

Once your beer pong table is built and painted it is recommended that finishing coats of lacquer should be applied. This will help keep the table from warping, the paint from fading, and will provide a great surface for your homemade beer pong table. Without lacquer, it will be very hard to clean your beer pong table, so we advise not to skip this step. The more coats of lacquer that you use the more durable the table will become, and the better the end result will be. I recommend 8 coats of lacquer, but have seen people use more.
Congratulations!
